Stories in your own voice
Children do not want a story. They want you, telling a story. Dreamify lets every new bedtime story be read in your voice, so the routine survives the nights you cannot be in the room.
Why we built it
The bedtime story is usually the most protected minute of a parent's day, and the first one lost to a work trip, a late shift or a stay at Grandma's. A video call rarely works at bedtime: the screen wakes a child up, the connection drops, and the goodbye at the end is the hardest part. What children miss is simpler than a call. It is the sound of your voice, slowing down, saying their name.
So we made the narrator optional. Read one short passage aloud once, and every story Dreamify writes from then on can be told in your voice, with your child's name and the things they love in it, whether you are in the next room or three time zones away. Our guide on keeping the bedtime story when a parent is away covers the whole plan, including what the caregiver at home should do.
How it works
- In the Parents tab, open Your voice and tick the consent box. The microphone stays off until you do.
- Read the short passage on screen in a quiet room. It takes about a minute.
- Listen to the preview. Keep it, or record again.
- From the next story on, choose your voice or one of the calm built-in narrators, per story or as the default.
What happens to the recording
Your recording, the text you read and a short preview clip are kept in your own private storage folder and nowhere else. When a story is narrated in your voice, the recording is sent to a speech provider for the duration of that one request; the provider stores nothing and no voice model is built or kept anywhere. Delete your voice from the Parents tab, or delete your account, and all of it is removed. The privacy policy describes this in full.
When parents use it
- Travel for work, when bedtime happens in a hotel time zone.
- Shift work and late hospital rotations.
- Separated parents, so the child hears both voices during the week.
- Grandparents and the far-away aunt who wants to read "her" story once a week.
- Parents who are simply hoarse, exhausted, or already asleep on the floor beside the cot.
Common questions
- How long does the recording take?
- About a minute. You read one short passage shown on screen, in a quiet room, holding the phone as you would on a call. You can re-record whenever you like.
- Whose voice can be recorded?
- A parent or guardian. The microphone only turns on after you tick an explicit consent box, and the feature is optional. The built-in narrators remain the default.
- What is stored and where?
- Your recording, the text it reads and a short preview clip, in your own private storage folder. Deleting your voice (Parents tab, Your voice, Delete my voice) or deleting your account removes them.
- Is a voice model trained on my recording?
- No voice model is built or kept anywhere. Narration in your voice is produced by a speech provider that receives the recording only for the duration of each narration request and stores nothing.
- Can I switch back to the built-in narrator?
- Yes, any time, per story or as the default, from the Parents tab.
